ICC World Cup 2019, England vs New Zealand, Jonny Bairstow inspired England beat New Zealand, qualifies for Semis. Pakistan are almost out of tournament.

England have shown an intent to qualify for the semi-finals and have registered a statement win against India and New Zealand. On the other side, Pakistan who were desperately waiting for England to lose any of those didn’t go in their way and are practically out of the tournament.

Let’s have a look at the match as it passed by

Jonny Bairstow ton sets it for England

Eoin Morgan once again won the toss and as expected opted to bat first. Both the openers started from where they left against India and got the hosts off to a fiercy start. Initally Jonny Bairstow took the charge and Jason Roy joined later on as both of them once again weaved a hundred run partnership.

Jason Roy after smashing back to back fours got out of a soft dismissal. But Jonny Bairstow was determined to hit back to back centuries as he did. The stalwart delivered his best performance when it mattered the most.

A sudden collapse

By the start provided by the openers, 350+ was well under reach. But Kiwi bowlers brought them back in game. Trent Boult and Matt Henry hunted in pair. Matt Henry got rid of well set Bairstow.

Trent Boult removed Joe Root and Jos Buttler. Mitchell Santner and Jimmy Neesham joined the party later on as now 300 seemed to be far from the hosts. But the tail helped England to cross the 300 run barrier.

New Zealand never took off as England beat New Zealand

After a heavy comeback from the bowlers, it was the time of batsmen to do their job. But none of them stood tall. Both the openers came and went back in no time. Their most dependable batsman, Kane Williamson, got out off an unlucky run out. This was not enough, as the experienced Ross Taylor too ran himself out.

Ambati Rayudu announced retirement from all forms of cricket

It was all over for New Zealand, as the match was now just a formality. Tom Latham fought hard for his brilliant fifty but the target was monstrous. Finally, Mark Wood completed the formalities and won it for the hosts.
